Abby

Loving, loyal, intelligent, mellow, snuggly, and gassy are all words that describe Adoptable Underdog Abby. (If you’ve ever known a pitbull type dog, you know why we have to include the “gassy” part…) Abby (also lovingly known as Abbadabs, Abbydabby, Abbadabba, and Potato--keep reading for the explanation of that last one--is a girl with a bit of a sad past who knows her happily ever after is out there! She became an Underdog after her previous owner lost his job and home at the height of the pandemic and was no longer able to care for her. Big life changes like this can be scary and unsettling, but Abby has shown herself to be a resilient and loving girl who, we know, will thrive in the right setting.

Abby’s superpowers include intelligence, master level use of the “sad eyes” technique, and the ability to melt hearts. She is always eager to engage with her foster parents in mastering new tricks. She’s food and praise motivated and is a quick study. Abby surprises her foster parents everyday with how smart she is and how easily she learns! As far as her “sad eyes power”, Abby has a way of looking at you like she has just never known love, making you feel compelled to shower her with even more love--her ultimate goal. (Remember that we said she was smart!) Truly her greatest super power, though, is her ability to melt hearts. She has mastered the art of turning her foster parents into babbling balls of hugs, kisses, and treats...and she is anxious to perfect her techniques on her forever family!

Abby loves to be with her people! Whether you’re cleaning the house, cooking dinner, or trying to pee in peace, Abby will be there. With that being said, Abby is happy to lie on her bed and give you space when you ask. We give her a Velcro level of high, but not overwhelming. Abby’s energy level can best be described as mixed. She can be a high speed racer zooming around the yard, or the ultimate couch potato--hence the nickname (we promised we’d explain that one!). Girl’s got a mood for every occasion! She is currently working on keeping “four on floor” when she gets excited, keeping her paws off the counter, and leash reactivity when she’s on walks.

Abby’s kryptonite is other animals. She is reactive when seeing other dogs on walks and needs a home where she is the only pet. A securely fenced backyard where she could roam freely would be ideal for her. Abby is a grade A watchdog. She’s generally quiet and mellow but will alert her family when someone is at the door...and then she’ll invite them in for a chill session on the couch.
Abby is truly a special dog. She has brought a tremendous amount of joy and love into her foster family and she’s more than ready to settle into her forever home.
Vital Statistics:
Abby’s ideal home: Abby needs a home with sturdy humans as she is a bit of a bulldozer and does not know her own strength or size...so, no small kids or easily knocked over adults for her. She needs to be the only free-roaming pet in the house and she would love a securely fenced backyard to run around in. Although Abby has never met a person that she didn’t ultimately like (and we’ve yet to find the person that doesn’t like her), she can be reactive when first meeting new people so she needs a family who understands and is sensitive to the needs of reactive dogs. Most importantly: Abby needs people who will love her as much as she will love them.
